[News] - [Couvertures] - [VO] - Semaine 27

Before there was Mercy Thompson… In a world far removed from the Alpha and Omega werewolves… There was the shapeshifting mercenary Aralorn.

    Masques
After an upbringing of proper behavior and oppressive expectations, Aralorn has fled her noble birthright for a life of adventure as a mercenary spy. Her latest mission involves gathering intelligence on the increasingly charismatic and dangerous sorcerer Geoffrey ae’Magi. But in a war against an adversary armed with the power of illusion, how do you know who the true enemy is—or where he will strike next?

    Wolfsbane
For the last ten years, Aralorn has led a dangerous existence. Now she must return home, for her noble father, the Lyon of Lambshold, has passed away. But when Aralorn and her companion Wolf arrive, they find that not only is he not dead, but a darkness is very much alive within him…
Pour Ilona Andrews, The Beginning of Magic sortira le 31 décembre 2012 et regroupera les deux premières aventures de Kate Daniels.

    Magic Bites
Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she’s way out of her league—but she wouldn’t want it any other way…

    Magic Burns
When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shapeshifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. The maps are only the opening gambit in an epic-tug-of-war between two gods hoping for rebirth. And if Kate can’t stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive…

    Bonus :
    • previously published Kate & Saiman short story, “A Questionable Client”
    • Curran POVs for MAGIC BITES, Unicorn Lane and Dinner at Fernando’s
    • Factions
    • Character descriptions
    • FAQ
    • Places
    • Quiz
    Ce qu'en dit l'auteur :
So who is this edition is for?  I already own MAGIC BITES, should I buy this?
If you just want the story and already own A Questionable Client, it’s probably not worth it.  You can get a lot of the extra material from the Kate’s World website.  We will eventually release the Dinner at Fernando’s POV on the blog, as always.  Ace is trying to raise the profile of the series by reintroducing it to the stores and we hope it will snare new readers into our tangled web.  This edition is mostly targeted at those new readers and the  die-hard fans of the series, who want to own something pretty to put on their shelves.  It would make a really nice gift for someone you might want to introduce to the series.  There is about 3,000 words worth of Curran POV in there, too, which marks the first time it’s available in print.
I want to reiterate that if you’re primarily interested in the novels of the series, this may not be worth the money.  It’s kind of up to you. :)
Here is a small taste of the Fernando’s POV, which by the way, Gordon wrote in like an hour.  I swear, the man bewilders me sometimes.
    Acheter :
The Beginning of Magic Shifter's Wolf

    Art Coverage Global Edition

De temps à autres, All Things Urban Fantasy met en compétition différentes versions d'un même livre - les différentes couvertures à travers le monde.
    Voici la nouvelle édition :

    Cover Art Coverage: Global Edition
Its that time again! Julia and I had some wonderful looking covers to choose from. We actually agreed more than we disagreed this time around. Have a look and tell us which ones you liked!
    RENEGADE by J.A. Souders

    US

    GE

    Renegade (Elysium-Chronicles, #1)

    Julia’s Preference

GE – Wow, close call! I eventually went with the German cover, if only because the cover model looks so dark and dangerous. The title “Rapture of the Deep” is pretty gorgeous, too.

    Kristina’s Preference

US-This was a hard choice but I really love the background of the US one with the garden and the flower petals falling onto the ground. It almost looks like she is standing infront of a painting and it is bleeding through the canvas going under her feet.
TANGLE OF NEED by Nalini Singh

    US

    GE

    Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11)

    Julia’s Preference

GE – Not sure about the shadows on his chest, but I love the stubble. Also, *infinitely* better than the red/gold nightmare of the US cover.

    Kristina’s Preference

GE – The German cover is very pretty. Plus any cover would be better than the US version for TANGLE OF NEED.
    RAPTURE by J.R. Ward

    US

    UK

    Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4)

    Julia’s Preference

US – The UK covers look very “club life/Jersey Shore” to me, I like the darker tone of the US covers.

    Kristina’s Preference

US-I love the wing hiding the hint of a man’s face. There is a bit too much going on in the UK one.

    DEARLY DEPARTED by Lia Habel

    US

    UK

Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1)

    Julia’s Preference

UK – Wow, I never would have guessed these were for the same story (I even read both descriptions to make sure). I’m not sure why the switch from Nora to Bram as the central image, & the t-shirt on the UK cover says “contemporary” more than the figures in the background manage to reference historical, but in the end the UK cover just has more grit

    Kristina’s Preference

UK- I love the way the red light on the UK cover version of DEARLY DEPARTED gives him two different eye colors. The eyes are what makes the UK version cover so interesting for me. The UK version does a much better job of telling you that DEARLY DEPARTED has zombies in it than the US version which could easily be a cover for any number of genres.

STAY THE NIGHT by Lynn Viehl

    US

    GE

    Stay the Night (Darkyn, #7)

    Julia’s Preference

US – The castle in the background looks kind of cheesy, though I don’t know enough about the series to say if that mix of contemporary & historical is intentional. Still, the US looks more cohesive & polished, the GE has so many elements it looks a little self-pub.

    Kristina’s Preference

GE-I really like that the title design and the roses give the German cover of STAY THE NIGHT/DARKYN a more romantic vibe. Plus I don’t know what they did with the overlay imagery on the guy’s face on the US cover version but I just don’t like the overall effect is has…I prefer the German cover.

    MESSENGER’S ANGEL by Heather Killough-Walden

    US

    UK

    Messenger's Angel (Lost Angels, #2)

    Julia’s Preference

US – Gah, what? I wish I could get a closer look at the UK cover, but to my eye it seems like he’s turning his face away from her kiss while copping a feel of her butt. Charming. The wings are pretty, but they also look like they’re stitched on to his t-shirt. I’d take emo-Zach Braff over the UK cover anyday.

    Kristina’s Preference

UK-The guy’s wings are so much prettier on the UK cover version of MESSENGER’S ANGEL than on the US version, and the white and grey tones give it more of an ‘angelic’ feel to me, if that makes any sense. The US version barely shows the wings and I like to see wings on the covers paranormal romances that feature angels.

TIME BETWEEN US by Tamara Ireland Stone

    US

    PL

    Time Between Us

pomiedzy grzb miekka 749x1024 The Cover: Poland!

    Julia’s Preference

US – Wow, this is a gorgeous group of covers. Even though I prefer the subtler “separated by distance” motif on the US cover to the more literally imposition of a clock, the Polish cover is beautifully done.

    Kristina’s Preference

PL – I like the overlay of the clock on the bottom. With both characters close up on the cover you definately get more of a feeling that time is key to the story especially with one of the characters in black and white (or sepia tone).

    ORIGINAL SIN by Lisa Desrochers

    US

    GE

    Original Sin (Personal Demons, #2)

    Pecado original (Demonios personales, #2)

    Julia’s Preference

Italian – I love the addition of the raven and those wings on the Italian version of ORIGINAL SIN.

    Kristina’s Preference

Italian-Great job of alluding to the demons & angels theme. I love the flames surrounding & the raven is a nice touch.

    DARKNESS DAWNS by Dianne Duvall

    US

    GE

    Darkness Dawns (Immortal Guardians, #1)

    Düstere Zeichen (Immortal Guardians, #1)

    Julia’s Preference

GE – Though the German cover of DARKNESS DAWNS does have a little more cheese, I like that it is much more identifiable as a paranormal romance than the US covers.

    Kristina’s Preference

GE-I like the pose for the model with his back to us in comparison to the typical shirt open pose. Also, I really like the bats & the gate in the background. It gives a dark & mysterious vibe to the cover.

Which versions of these covers do you like? Tell us in the comments
